Hands on Play

Unlike older children, preschoolers/toddlers are unable to learn through passive or abstract methods. Young children learn best by direct hands-on experience.

Alot of fun hands- on play material will be provided. Typical play equipment such as blocks, dress up, cars, trains, and dolls are available, but also play materials such as plastic bottles, curlers, egg cartons, and napkin holders. I offer the children different kinds of textures and items to explore to help them develop their senses: touch, sight, smell, sound, taste. The children select their own materials and direct their own play.

What About Sharing?

I believe learning to share is a task that should begin early in life. Children learn to share through play. Young children don't always like to share and that's why not only do I have plenty of play materials to go around, but I also use every opportunity to teach about sharing, taking turns and how to be a good friend. The child directs how they will play with the material as long as they are not hurting themselves or anyone else.

What are Sensory Activities?

Touching different textures such as fake fur, corduroy, velvet, felt and handling different types of items: egg cartons, curlers, jar covers as well as many other items. In addition, sand play, water play, play-doh, glue and paint activities.

Learning Through Play

When the children play with the materials they are learning. Through play they can learn new skills that they will use now and in the future. The children willl be exposed to alot of new ideas and sensory items to touch and alot of songs and rhymes to help stimulate and encourage the children to explore their environment.

Hands on learning activities

As the children play with the items, and engage in the activities they are learning in all areas: social, emotional, physical, cognitive and language. The children will be provided with fun activities and learn by using their five senses by seeing pictures, by handling the learning materials, hearing songs and stories. The children will learn shapes, colors, letters and numbers through songs, rhymes and stories. Simple crafts, coloring, sidewalk chalk, painting and gluing. There will be group time, art/sensory time, playtime, learning time along with some cute songs and rhymes to help capture the children's attention and help them learn.
